The Cars Motor Speedway of the South set was released back on the 20th of May earlier this year. It was only available to members of the Hot Wheels Red Line Club. The club is actually an exclusive program offered by Hot Wheels with several benefits. Most important to collectors, is that club members have an exclusive priority window of time (24 hours before non-Club members) to purchase certain exclusive vehicles promoted on HotWheelsCollectors.com.
The 36 car set esentially tries to relive the excitement of the controversial opening race that took place at the Motor Speedway of the South. Led by Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks, and “The King” Strip Weathers, the cars from the race are encased in a Cars themed box with a speedway background. A number of vehicles actually made their debut in the Cars line with this set, including the frequently requested Apple stock car!
The cars included were:
Lightning McQueen #95

The Cars Speedway of the South had a production quantity of 1,000 sets so they’re extremely limited! Origionally they were individually numbered and priced at $299.99 + $12.95 S&P (shipping & processing) each. Since then however, they’re been fetching amazing prices.
There’s a surprisingly high number of them that are actually showing up as well. I’m guessing alot of collectors who realize how much they’re worth are opting to sell them. My bet is that these will definately retain their value over time. Plus, the ones that sell will most likely remain in the hands and collections of those who buy them.

Any idea as who are the rest of the Piston Cup racers not made yet? McQueen mentioned in the movie, there are 43 contestants, including himself, though the exclusive set only contains 36 cars. Any inside hints??
