The Lehmann Tut-Tut, EPL 490, one of the company’s best known toys, is offered here in its very scarce, red wheeled variation and in a condition that is rarely equaled. The very large man, all dressed in white, perhaps afraid that no-one will notice him coming, loudly blows his horn at regular intervals while physically steering his car on an erratic course. (which consists of alternating between a small arc and a broader arced path). Strangely, his horn elbow moves up and down, possibly for those with less than acute hearing. And, yes, the paper bellows for the horn do work and have never undergone repairs. Aside from some of the gold colored plating missing for a portion of the underside (a factory cosmetic flaw) and a little bit of wear on the top leading edge of the hat, one could very justifiably call this toy mint. Any minuscule nick in the litho would all be from the assembly line, or storage wear, although you’d really have to search hard to spot them. The toy comes in its original box, with some tears to the lid aprons and several tears/repairs to the bottom section, but with a label that is the best I have seen to date. I am not sure whether the red wheel version was made over a period of several years (but in limited numbers) or if it was issued only for a very short period.
