This is an original 1938. the 1937s and 1938s all had serial numbers on the frame under the front truck. The 37s began with an 01 and the 38s began with 38. This one is 38 2248. The 38s were a lot better metal composite than the first year. A lot of the 37s crumbled. This one was professionally restored about 28 years ago and has been displayed on a T Rail display board ever since. This is very clean – no dust. It has been test run in forward and reverse to make sure it runs smooth. The E Unit functions properly. I would recommend that it be lubricated throughly before operating. I believe this is a late 1938 after Lionel added the three oil parts on the bottom of the engine for the drive wheels. This beautiful scale model measures 14 1/8″ in length. The tender measures 10″ in length. Coupled together, they measure about 24 1/2″. All the running gears are correct and present including the lubricating lever. Both have been re-lettered very nicely and the lettering is very clear. The tender has the correct No. 700T MADE BY THE LIONEL CORPORATION NEW YORK USA. The tender has the die cast whistle but hasn’t been tested. It appears to be all original but I am not positive. I am including an original Lionel Hudson 5344-J-lE sales brochure. It’s 14 pages original 1937. Also included is a Lionel 700KW reprint instructions for assembling the Hudson. Included is a great reproduction of a Lionel display board made in dark oak with two pieces of custom cut T-Rail to display this beauty on. It is nearly like Lionel’s there is no name plate but they are on eBay occasionally. This is just a beautiful 73 year old train. It seems to be all original and complete. SOLD AS IS-NO RETURNS.
